Description
Vintage advertisement poster for the XVII. National Art Exhibition in Zürich, Switzerland, 1928, with a yellow butterfly, by Augusto Giacometti.
Augusto Giacometti (1877–1947) was a versatile Swiss artist best known for his paintings, murals and stain glass windows. His style evolved over the decades embracing elements of abstraction and modernism, but he remained deeply connected to his symbolic roots throughout his career. He's considered today as a pioneer of modern color studies and abstraction. He transferred the method of color separation of pointillism to the juxtaposition of relatively large patches painted in a range of colors, generating a crude structure - a novel style of abstraction.
Our collection features a wide variety of his works, from his beautiful early art nouveau style floral watercolors through his colorful symbolist paintings and landscapes to minimalist posters and abstract color studies.
