Artist's Description
The Cloud, Red Mountain - Landscape with the peaks of the Coast Mountains in British Columbia, with vibrant blue sky, by FH Varley. 1927-28
Frederick Horsman (F. H.) Varley was a founding member of the Group of Seven, an influential movement of Canadian landscape painters active between 1920 and 1933. He saw art as a spiritual vocation, and his strong interest in the human figure, alongside landscape painting, set him apart from the other members of the group. His paintings are marked by emotional intensity and psychological depth, reflecting both his spiritual outlook and the lasting impact of his experiences as a war artist.
More paintings from the members of the Group of Seven available in the collection.
