A. J. Casson was a master at capturing these beautiful, changing light effects, the contrast in his landscapes gives a unique, dramatic quality to many of his paintings.
Casson was the youngest member of the Group of Seven, an influential art movement of Canadian landscape painters from 1920-33. He joined the original seven members in 1926.
His painting style is characterized by clear colors and backgrounds, he's best known for his depictions of landscapes and villages of southern Ontario.
