A. J. Casson was a master at capturing the beautiful, changing light effects of moments before and after a storm. The contrast of the areas hit by sunlight and the shadows cast by the clouds gives a unique, dramatic quality to many of his landscapes.
Casson was the youngest member of the Group of Seven, an influential art movement of Canadian landscape painters from 1920-33. He joined the original seven members in 1926.
His painting style is characterized by clear colors and backgrounds, he's best known for his depictions of landscapes and villages of southern Ontario.
