'Rigoletto is one of the most exciting operas with a grim finale and no redemption, with extremes but also a sense of moral ambiguity. Rigoletto is the anti-hero of the piece, a hunchbacked jester in the court of the despicable Duke of Mantua. He willingly accommodates his master's immoral lifestyle while living a double-life outside the cruel world of the court with her daughter Gilda, who eventually pays the price for his fathers behavior.
