Description
Opera poster for Fidelio by Ludwig van Beethoven - from the minimalist opera poster series by illustrator and writer Moira Risen - a perfect gift for opera fans.
'Fidelio (originally titled Leonore, oder Der Triumph der ehelichen Liebe - The Triumph of Marital Love) is Beethoven's only opera.
It tells a story of personal sacrifice, heroism and eventual triumph above injustice, with a strong moral - these are important topics of Beethoven's personal views.
The setting (a political prison) is pretty unusual for an opera: Leonore - disguised as a prison guard named Fidelio - rescues her husband's (Florestan) life who's imprisoned by his political enemy, Don Pizarro.
The sheet music at the bottom of the poster is from Rocco's (the warden of the prison) aria 'Hat man nicht auch Gold'.
This poster is part of my continuously augmented opera-themed poster collection featuring the works of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Rossini and other great composers. '
All pieces are available as high quality framed, acrylic, metal or canvas print in different sizes.
