Description
New York, Long Island, and the Coast of Connecticut in the days of the Revolution - Colton Waugh's 1928 historic pictorial map of Long Island and the contiguous parts of Connecticut, as a tribute to the American Revolution.
The map depicts the area from New York City to Fisher's Island and Montauk Point, with vignettes of New York City in 1776, the evacuation of New York City in 1783, an early view of Wall Street, and tearing down the Statue of King George on July 6, 1776, along with a portrait of George Washington and plan of Manhattan. Other illustrations show Sag Harbour Whaling ships.
The body of the map is richly annotated with historical information, including post roads, battle sites and places where Washington slept during the war, among other factoids.
