A.Y. (Alexander Young) Jackson was a founding and leading member of the Group of Seven, an influential art movement of Canadian landscape painters from 1920-33. He travelled widely and painted full-time, primarily landscapes. While travelling in Europe between 1905 and 1913, A.Y. Jackson became fascinated by Impressionism and began to explore the movement's painterly effects and use of colour in his own work. This scenic landscape is dated from that period (1913), just after he returned from Europe.
